Vishal Bharat Shansthan has been working for (more than) 37 years for the poor, disadvantaged and deprived children. Shansthan has worked for the most vulnerable Ragpicker and their family. The organisation helped children for the education, health and freedom form drug addiction, some of them were also involved in child labour.
One day, while returning from school on a hot afternoon, he was standing at a tea stall. At the same time, a ragpicker child came to drink water from a government hand pump nearby. This greatly annoyed the tea vendor, who beat the child with a stick and drove him away, fearing that if the child touched the hand pump, no one else would drink tea or water at his shop. The pain and suffering of that child changed the course of young Rajeev’s life.
From the very next day, Rajeev resolved to transform the lives of ragpicker children and help them gain acceptance in society. He began teaching children at Mughal Sarai railway station. From that day till today, he has been continuously engaged in the mission of transforming children’s lives.
Because of living and working closely with neglected and deprived children, Rajeev was expelled from his home by his father. Despite this, Rajeev completed his own education while living with the children and continued teaching them. Along with nurturing and educating the children, Rajeev also launched campaigns against social evils such as dowry and substance abuse.
Inspired by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose from the very beginning, Rajeev instilled a sense of patriotism among the children and ignited in underprivileged children the determination to do something meaningful for the nation.
So far, Vishal Bharat Shansthan has educated more than 3,000 children and helped them secure a place in society.
From the outset, Vishal Bharat Shansthan decided that whatever work would be done for the unity and integrity of the nation would be carried out based on a model of service. Instead of depending on the government, full-time service models would be developed using limited self-resources. Vishal Bharat Shansthan has developed world-renowned models of service, nationalism, and human relations, which have today become exemplary.
